On 9 October 2006, in Minneapolis, Martha
Fajardo, President of the International Federation
of Landscape Architects (IFLA) and Gaetan
Siew, President of the International Union
of Architects (UIA) represented by the UIA
Vice president Mauricio Rivero Borrell, signed
an agreement for co-operation between the
two organisations.
While recognising the distinct nature and
standing of the two bodies and of the professions
they represent, the UIA and IFLA want to
contribute to the development of the role
of architecture and that of landscape architecture
in order to reinforce the importance of the
context of the built environment and enhance
the quality of life for human beings.
The UIA and the IFLA will encourage initiatives
that support the professional needs of their
respective members and their joint aspirations.
